Ed Valle Hired as CMO of Mexican-Style Chicken Chain El Pollo Loco

El Pollo Loco hired Ed Valle, a long-time marketing veteran in the restaurant industry with a background in consumer packaged goods (CPG) and brand marketing, as chief marketing officer. Valle has hospitality roots, having worked at both Choice Hotels, Panera Bread, and other quick serve chains.

The Costa Mesa, Calif.-based chain has already indicated in a company statement that Valle's core focus will be on advertising and marketing strategy.

El Pollo Loco's new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Valle is probably best known in the restaurant industry for this work at Panera Bread, where he executed the fast casual giant's first television advertising campaigns. At Choice Hotels, where he most recently worked, he oversaw advertising, media, brand strategy and other promotional initiatives.

Valle also had marketing roles at Dunkin Donuts, Subway and Diageo. His bachelor's degree is from Michigan State University and he is a M.B.A., having earned his master's degree in business administration at Fordham University.

“We are thrilled to add Ed’s extensive experience managing restaurant brands and his expertise in traditional, digital and social media to El Pollo Loco’s successful marketing initiatives," says Steve Sather, president and CEO of El Pollo Loco, a Hispanic-targeted Mexican-style chicken chain with nearly 400 stores in the United States.

Newly hired CMO Ed Valle will relocate from New Jersey, and work out of the Costa Mesa corporate office of El Pollo Loco.
