Micky Pant Takes Chief Exec Position in Yum International Division - Kandessa

Micky Pant, a two-time Golden Lion Award winner and well-known quick serve restaurant marketing veteran, will now lead the International division of Yum Brands. The 57-year old Pant will be the new chief executive officer of Yum Restaurants International (YRI) effective December 6. All international business leaders of YRI as well as corporate support staff will report to Pant.

Pant was president of YRI and Global Branding, now promoted as Graham Allan retires early next year. Pant will report directly to David C. Novak, chairman and chief executive of Yum Brands.  While Pant becomes the new chief of YRI, 48-year old Niren Chaudhary, will lead a new division supporting the growth in India. Chaudhary becomes president of Yum Restaurants India, and will also report to Yum's Chief Executive Novak.

Yum says that creating a new business unit for India underscores the importance of the emerging market for the well-lubricated Yum international engine.

Novak credited Graham Allen for international success, nearly doubling the restaurant behemoth's international sales. "Over his 20-year career with YRI, he has made an outstanding and lasting impact on our company," said Novak. "While we certainly respect his personal decision to retire from YRI and return to the U.K. to be closer to his family, we thank him for his many significant contributions to setting our company up for continued future growth."

Pant has a vast marketing repertoire, and previously worked at Unilever plc, PepsiCo and Reebok. Pant joined Yum Brands in 2005. In six short years, the company credited him for the following in a company statement:

  • Developed strategic global brand plans for KFC and Pizza Hut, and launched KFC’s global “so good” campaign,
  • At Pizza Hut International, created strategic framework for separating the dine-in and delivery businesses, including the introduction of Pizza Hut Delivery
  • Grew expansion of Taco Bell International while successfully overseeing seven international business units

Yum Brands, Inc. is based in Louisville, Ky., and boasts more than 38,000 restaurants in more than 110 countries and territories. In 2010, it garnered more than $11 billion in sales.
