Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is celebrating the opening of its newest location in Memphis, Tenn.  Popeyes held a grand opening promotion offering 2,000 pieces of free chicken at the new location today.

In less than two hours, all the free chicken had been given away. By the time the local Jazz quartet Brian “Breeze” Cayolle had stopped playing, the free chicken had departed, and guests had gulped down the complimentary Flavoriety™ Big Easy Cooler™, Popeyes had successfully ushered in its 2000th restaurant system-wide.

The store is located at 4201 Hacks Cross Road, Memphis, Tenn.

"Popeyes is excited about bringing the taste of Louisiana to the Hacks Cross Road community, and plans to continue this development momentum across the U.S. and globally," said Kelsey Schmitt, Communications Coordinator for Popeyes.

Popeyes 2010 Operator of the Year Award winner Bob Cook is the milestone restaurant's franchisee.  The 45-year quick serve restaurant (QSR) veteran is president of Olive Oil Associates. the opening marks Popeyes'  32nd location in Tennessee.

Cook has been with the Popeyes system for 12 years, according to a spokesperson for the Atlanta-based chain.

“The 2,000th restaurant opening is proof that our delicious, authentic Louisiana cooking, paired with a very deliberate development strategy is the perfect recipe for success,” said Ralph Bower, chief operating officer for Popeyes. “We are pleased to reach this significant milestone as we approach our 40th year.”

“With our evaluative measures in place, we are able to look at key factors that affect restaurant performance and profitability and the proof is in the performance, " said Bower of Popeyes' development strategy, which he says focuses on unit profitability and optimal site selection.
